Assistant Chief Engineer for Design – Mike Fugett

The Assistant Chief Engineer for Design supervises five divisions. The Right of Way Division purchases property for highway construction and relocates utilities prior to highway construction. The Roadway Design and Bridge Divisions produce plans and specifications for highway and bridge construction. The State Aid Division administers the County Road Program and the City Street Program as directed by the Street Committee. The Surveys Division provides engineering and Land Surveys to support the planning, design, and construction of transportation projects.

Mike Fugett began his career with the Department as a Civil Engineer I in July 1986. After completing the orientation program, he transferred to the Roadway Design Division. He advanced to Design Engineer a year later. In January 1989, Mike promoted to Advanced Design Engineer and, in December 1994, he became Senior Design Engineer. He promoted to Staff Design Engineer in July 2002. He attained the position of Assistant Division Head of Roadway Design in July 2008. In September 2010, Mike was promoted to Division Head of Roadway Design. Mike was named Assistant Chief Engineer for Design in July 2012. Mike has a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Memphis State University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and is a member of the Arkansas Academy of Civil Engineer.
