Improvement Work for Interstate 555 in Jonesboro Needs New Traffic Patterns

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY (4-12) – Construction work improving Interstate 555 in Jonesboro needs new traffic patterns, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) officials.

Weather permitting, crews will shift southbound I-555 main-lane traffic between Southwest Drive (Highway 18) and Nettleton Avenue (Highway 463) onto the newly constructed northbound roadway section starting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14. This will result in a single lane of traffic in each direction, separated by a concrete barrier wall until October 2021. Drivers will enter and exit the northbound lane using the newly constructed median ramps.

This construction work is part of a $33.8 million contract awarded to Koss Construction. The purpose of this project to reconstruct and overlay five bridges and hydro-demolition four bridges on I-555 between Highways 63B and 18 in Jonesboro. This project (Job 100959) is estimated to be complete in late 2021.

Traffic will be controlled by traffic drums, concrete barrier walls, and signage. Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.
