ARDOT to break ground on future Interstate 49 in Barling

SEBASTIAN COUNTY | October 10, 2022

The Arkansas Department of Transportation will gather to celebrate the first of several groundbreaking ceremonies to mark the beginning of construction on the future Interstate 49 between Barling and Alma.

Join ARDOT, state, and local officials Thursday, October 13 at 3 p.m. in Barling to break ground on what will be the Interstate 49/Highway 22 Interchange in Barling. Please see attached map NR 22-240-A for the event location.

Taylor-Hendrix, LLC of Hope, Arkansas won the $891,453 contract to clear vegetation and debris around the site that will become the interchange.

When complete, this new section of I-49 will be 13.6 miles long and include a new bridge over the Arkansas River. The work is expected to be done in multiple phases over the next several years.

An estimated $270 million from the recently-passed Issue 1 will fund the future 13.6 miles of new Interstate between Barling and Alma.
